Davis Coen Band to Bring IBC-Bound Trio to Proud Larry’s on Nov. 21

Oxford’s own Davis Coen Band will take the stage at Proud Larry’s on Friday, November 21, offering local music fans a chance to catch their newly formed three-piece lineup before it heads to Memphis in January to compete in the 2025 International Blues Challenge (IBC).

The group - led by guitarist and vocalist Davis Coen, with Kane Harrell on bass and Kinney Kimbrough of Holly Springs on drums - earned top honors last month at the Memphis Blues Society’s Battle of the Blues Challenge. With that win, the trio will represent the Memphis Blues Society at the 41st IBC on Beale Street, one of the world’s most respected showcases for rising blues artists.

Friday’s show will highlight the same raw, roots-driven sound that helped the band secure the local title - mixing hypnotic Hill Country rhythms with Coen’s soulful vocals and seasoned Southern blues songwriting.

“This is a great chance for people here in Oxford to hear what we’ll be taking to Memphis,” Coen said. “We’re excited to hit the Proud Larry’s stage with this trio and bring that energy home before the big competition.”

The free show begins at 8 p.m.. Proud Larry’s is located on the Oxford Square.
